Women’s Ice Hockey Suffers Setback at Salem

SALEM, Mass. – The New England College women's ice hockey team lost 2-0 at Salem State University on Friday evening at Rockett Arena in Salem, Massachusetts in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Salem State senior forward Carolyn Mahoney (Melrose, Mass.) scored the first goal of the game 9:23 into the first, assisted by senior defender Gianna Beauclair (Stoneham, Mass.) and freshman forward Cecelia Curtin (Montpelier, Vt.) to put the Vikings up 1-0.
  • With 11:40 left in the third period and still holding on to a 1-0 lead, Salem State junior defender Brenna Greene (Haverhill, Mass.) capitalized on a power play to put her team up by two, assisted by Beauclair and graduate defender Catherine Lawrence (Guilford, Conn.). That would hold up for the final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC senior goalie Hannah Podvey (West Caldwell, N.J.) tallied 32 saves on the night in arguably her best performance of the season, with a .941 save percentage.
  • Salem State senior goalie Hannah Aveni (Melrose, Mass.) recorded 35 stops for the win.
  • Total shots were 35-34 in favor of the Pilgrims.
