Women’s Ice Hockey Shut Out by Panthers

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The New England College women's ice hockey team suffered a 3-0 loss to Plymouth State on Saturday as the Panthers completed the weekend sweep of the Pilgrims at Hanaway Rink.

Plymouth State took a 1-0 lead 7:32 into the second period on a goal from Grace Bonnell and quickly made it a two-goal advantage a minute later on a goal off the stick of Katie Porrello.

The Panthers added another goal 12:30 into the third from Gracie Menicci to take a 3-0 lead.

NEC had four power play chances on the night, including three in the third period, but were unable to capitalize. On the other side, PSU went 0-for-5 on extra skater chances as all three goals were even strength.

Sophomore Anna McGinty (Duxbury, Mass.) had a very busy night in goal, seeing 51 shots on net and making 48 stops – her third highest save total in a game this season. Plymouth's Jorja Moore had 13 saves in the shutout.

For the 'Grims, senior Meadow Gilchrist (Stamford, Conn.) had a team-leading five shots on goal and went 13-24 on face-offs. Junior Sofia Gualtieri (Montreal, Que.) led all players with four blocks.

The Pilgrims will return home on Tuesday, February 10th, as they host Framingham State in a late-season non-conference game at 7:00 PM.
