Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women’s Ice Hockey Shut Out, 3–0

HENNIKER, N.H. --   The New England College women's ice hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to UMass Boston Beacons on Friday evening, opening the first of a two-weekend set between the programs. Despite a hard-fought effort and a strong defensive showing through much of the contest, the Pilgrims were unable to overcome a late surge by the Beacons.

The two teams were deadlocked in a scoreless battle through the first 40 minutes, with both sides trading chances, but unable to break through sophomore Anna McGinty (Duxbury, Mass.) stood tall between the pipes, turning aside 29 shots over the first two periods to keep NEC within striking distance. The team was able to tally 12 blocks, with two apiece from junior Sofia Gualtieri (Montreal, Que.), senior Meadow Gilchrist (Stamford, Conn.), and freshman Claire Gerarden (Green Bay, Wisc.).

UMass Boston finally broke through midway through the third period when Adriana Kelsch netted the game's first goal. The Beacons quickly built momentum, doubling their advantage just two minutes later a tally from Grace Lynch. Less than 30 seconds after that, Kelsch struck again, found the back of the net for her second of the night and extended the lead to three. The quick flurry of goals proved to be the difference, as the Pilgrims were unable to recover. Senior Isabella Marzano (Warwick, R.I.) led the team with four shots.

The team will round out the regular season tomorrow at Lee Clement Arena. The team will be playing in memory of Sidney Capolino '22 and Meghan Moore '21.
