PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Junior Mae Lafferty (South Boston, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season and junior Samantha Babbitt (Weathersfield, Vt.) scored the seventh of her career on Friday night as the Pilgrims suffered a 6-2 road loss to Plymouth State.
Lafferty's goal came midway through the second period as the junior cut into the Panthers' 3-0 lead on a Pilgrims power-play. Lafferty had a team-high five assists entering the game before finally getting on the board with her first of the season. Sophomore Jamie Blondin (Oakville, Ont.) was credited with the lone assist on the goal as she pushed her season point total to nine.
While a potent Panther offense grew their lead to 6-1 by the middle of the third period, Babbitt found the back of the net with 9:25 for her second score of the season. She was assisted on the goal by senior Isabella Marzano (Warwick, R.I.) to make it a 6-2 game – a score that would remain until the final horn.
Lisi Palmer led the way for Plymouth State with two goals while Katie Porrello had a goal and two helpers. Karlee Lehner had 22 saves in net for the Panthers while sophomore Anna McGinty (Duxbury, Mass.) had 34 for the Pilgrims. The Panthers outshot the Pilgrims 40-24 on the night.
The Plymouth State victory evens the season series at 1-1 as NEC had previously gotten the best of PSU back on November 21st as the Pilgrims earned a 3-1 win on their home ice. The Pilgrims and Panthers are back in action tomorrow at 4:00 PM at Hanaway Rink for the rubber match. Both teams will enter the game tied with 13 points in conference play.
