HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's ice hockey team lost 2-1 to visiting Castleton University on Friday evening at Lee Clement Arena in Henniker, New Hampshire in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Playing one of the best teams in the conference, the 'Grims hung tough for most the night. Castleton senior forward Brooke Greenwood (Brampton, Ontario) broke the stalemate with 4:27 left in the first period, assisted by senior forwards Samantha Lawler (Billerica, Mass.) and Kaitlin Bardellini (Northfield, N.H., going into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead.
  • Still trailing by one late in the third period, NEC capitalized on a power play when freshman forward Isabella Marzano (Warwick, R.I.) scored her third career goal, assisted by junior forward Emily Lenzen (Littleton, Colo.) and graduate defender Kaylee Cross (Arvada, Colo.). Just like that the score was tied at 1-1 with 5:50 left in the game.
  • But a mere 44 seconds later, junior forward Emily Harris (Crondall, England) exploded towards the goal and finished for the eventual game-winner assisted by junior forward Alex Johnson (Andover, Mass.) and freshman forward Meg Aiken (Sherwood, P.E.I.).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC sophomore goalie Thea Joerö (Uppsala, Sweden) posted her best game of the season, tallying 41 saves with a .953 save percentage.
  • Castleton sophomore goalie Izabella Segui (Newington, Conn.) stopped 27 of 28 shots.
  • Total shots were 43-28 in favor of the Spartans.
UP NEXT
  • NEC has a quick turnaround as they host the Panthers of Plymouth State on Saturday in a crucial NEHC contest. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
  • Castleton travels to Norwich University in their next action, that also coming on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
