HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's ice hockey team lost in an overtime thriller against visiting Chatham on Saturday at Lee Clement Arena in Henniker, New Hampshire in non-conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

NEC and Chatham both got off to a delightful start, each with one goal each by the end of the first period. NEC's goal was made by freshman defender Jordan Pond (Gardner, Mass.), assisted by senior forward Mikayla Vincent (Newburyport, Mass.) and freshman forward Olivia Lindberg (Enkoping, Sweden).

The 'Grims got out ahead in the second period scoring two goals over the Cougars' one. NEC's goals were made by Mikayla Vincent, assisted by senior forward Tatiana Fedeneva (Pervouralsk, Russia) and freshman forward Meadow Gilchrist (Stamford, Conn.), as well as a score from junior forward Emily Lenzen (Littleton, Colo.), assisted by Lindberg.

Chatham gave NEC a taste of its own medicine by scoring two to one in the third period as the Cougars were able to force overtime with the latter goal with 2:23 remaining. 'Grims' goal was made by freshman forward Isabella Marzano (Warwick, R.I.), assisted by freshman defender Gabrielle Iwinski (Batavia, Ill.) and Emily Lenzen.

It was competitive in the overtime period until Chatham's junior Ally Nolan (Westford, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal 2:18 in, assisted by graduate Ashley Marchant (Orange County, Calif.).

Pilgrims' sophomore goalie Thea Joerö (Uppsala, Sweden) collected 37 saves.

Cougars' freshman goalie Sam Brophy (London, ON) had 31 saves for Chatham.

Chatham outshot NEC 42-35 in a tight battle.
