Women’s Ice Hockey Rallies to Draw Wildcats

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's ice hockey team came back from a three goal deficit to force a tie against visiting Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday at Lee Clement Arena in Henniker, New Hampshire in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Johnson & Wales jumped out to a quick lead with a goal in the first period and a pair of goals early in the second.
  • NEC responded 13:36 into the second period when graduate defender Kaylee Cross (Arvada, Colo.) netted her first goal of the season, assisted by freshman forward Meadow Gilchrist (Stamford, Conn.) and sophomore forward Meaghan McCamish (Warwick, R.I.).
  • The 'Grims would cut into the Wildcats lead once again 15:37 into the second period as freshman forward Isabella Marzano (Warwick, R.I.) connected on her first career goal off assists from McCamish and freshman defender Gina Sciortino (Billerica, Mass.).
  • With just 5:26 left in the third period, junior forward AK Fuentes (Aspen, Colo.) stole the puck from a JWU defender and deposited an unassisted goal to tie the game up at 3 a piece.
  • The overtime period was filled with a flurry of shots from both teams, but both goaltenders made pivotal saves to force the draw.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Pilgrims' senior goalie Hannah Podvey (West Caldwell, N.J.) collected 29 saves.
  • Sophomore goalie Sofia Tamayo (Orland Park, Ill.) saved 28 shots for the Wildcats.
  • Johnson & Wales narrowly outshot NEC 32-31.
  • New England College is now 3-8-4 all time against Johnson & Wales.
