The New England College Field Hockey Team starts their 2020-21 campaign Friday as they host the Owls of Keene State at 4:00 pm.
The Pilgrims come have yet to play this year with the fall being canceled and have been waiting for an opportunity to play a game. New England College has not played since November 9th, 2019 when their season came to a close in the New England Collegiate Conference Semifinals. That year the Pilgrims finished at 9-10 with some big wins over Plymouth State and Husson in the first round of the NECC Tournament. That year the roster only had six players who were a junior or above with 16 Freshmen and two Sophomores. At the close of the season, New England College's future looked very promising and it still does today as the roster is still very young with 21 players and only four Juniors and Seniors combined. While the Pilgrims are still young they have some experience under their belt and will look to build on that in this next game.
The Owls come into the contest at 0-2 with a loss to Eastern Connecticut in overtime and a loss to Franklin Pierce. Back in 2019 Keene State went 15-8 and lost in the Little East Conference Championship. Both teams will be looking for a win in some non-traditional play.
