HENNIKER, N.H. - Senior goalkeeper Makenzie Anderson (Antrim, N.H.) of the New England College field hockey team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Goalkeeper of the Year for a second consecutive season, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Anderson started all 20 games for the Pilgrims this season, setting new career-bests in goals-against average, save percentage, and tying a career-high in shutouts. The senior led the GNAC in all three categories by a sizable margin. Her .875 save percentage was .57 points better than the next best, qualified goaltender. Anderson's 0.72 goals-against average was more than a goal better than the next lowest – 1.80. Her five shutouts were two more than any other player.
Makenzie's numbers were even better against GNAC opponents. Her .918 in-conference save percentage was 100 percentage points better than the next highest goalkeeper. She gave up just four goals in GNAC play with a 0.46 goals-against average. She was credited with seven wins and three shutouts in those games. Anderson collected another shutout against GNAC competition with a 3-0 win over Lasell in the GNAC Quarterfinals. She earned a spot on the GNAC All-Tournament Team.
The senior had the best season of her NEC career and once again ranked very highly among goalkeepers at the national level. She currently ranks 3rd in the country in save percentage and eighth in Division-III in goals-against average. Anderson ends her career in Henniker with 40 career wins and will graduate with the second most shutouts in program history with 16.
