NASHUA, NH- The New England College field hockey team picked up a 4-3 victory over the Raiders of Rivier University Sunday afternoon in their final contest of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Pilgrims had a strong offensive showing in the first quarter as they put 10 shots on goal in the first 15 minutes. New England College scores two goals in the quarter for an early 2-0 lead. The goals were scored by Drea Chin and Lilli McCormack both of which were their first collegiate goals. Makenzie picked up an assist on McCormack's goal.

The Pilgrims kept their offense going in the second quarter as they put 11 shots on goal in the next 15 minutes. New England College also had five offensive corners in the quarter and came away with one goal. Aviara Challinor scored the second quarter goal which was her first collegiate goal. Rawiyah Nakyanzi picked up an assist on Challinor's goal. The Raiders finally got on the board in the second quarter as the Pilgrims held a 3-1 lead going into the break.

Things shifted more in favor of Rivier in the third quarter as they scored the only goal. New England College's offensive output slowed as they only got four shots on goal but they still got four offensive corners. Despite some offense, the Pilgrims were unable to score in the third as they went into the final frame of play with a narrow 3-2 lead.

The fourth quarter saw similar offensive output as the third for New England College with five shots on goal and three offensive corners. However, this time the Pilgrims were able to score as Mikayla Vincent found the back of the net off a pass from McCormack. The Raiders also scored in the fourth quarter but they only got one goal as New England College claimed the 4-3 victory.

The Pilgrims season comes to a close as they will not be on the field again until the fall of 2021.
