Owls Sneak Past NEC, 2-0

HENNIKER, NH- Two late goals from Keene State College is the difference, as the New England College field hockey team drops a 2-0 decision to the Owls in non-conference action, Thursday afternoon

 

NEC drops to 0-2, while the Owls improve to 2-2 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED

New England College was able to establish their offense first, as Neve Demarest got the first shot of the game, 5:33 into the game. The Pilgrims were able to fire the first four shots on goal before Keene State got their first shot attempt right before the end of the first quarter. The Owls carried over the momentum that they established late in the first quarter, and brought it into the second, as they outshot NEC 4-0, but were held scoreless.  

Coming out of the break, the Pilgrims were on the attack, as Lilli McCormack had a shot on goal just over 90 seconds after halftime. New England College continued the pressure, as they had three more shots and lead to two penalty corners. The Owls flipped the script, as they closed out the third with two shots and two corners, but the contest remained scoreless. Keene State came out of the gates for the fourth quarter on the attack, as they peppered the NEC netminder with four shots and were awarded four corners before Ellie Hunkins got KSC on the board. Keene State continued to apply pressure on the Pilgrims defense, as they had three more shots and were awarded five corners before Jordyn Martin broke through for the Owls.

After the Keene State second goal, New England College we on the attack, as they got four corners and fired three shots. Drea Chin was awarded a penalty stroke with 3:19 remaining in regulation, but it went just wide.

 

GOALKEEPERS

Ellie Philben was strong in the cage for the Pilgrims and turned aside 12 shots, while Molly Edmark and Victoria Watson split time for the Owls, as the duo recorded nine stops.

 

WHAT'S NEXT

New England College will continue their season against the Little East Conference, as they will head down to Willimantic, Connecticut to take on Eastern Connecticut on Thursday, April 22nd at 5 pm.
