Box Score PLYMOUTH, NH The New England College women's ice hockey team fell to Plymouth State University 4-0 in their season opener, Saturday morning.
The Pilgrims drop to 0-2-0 on the young season, while the Panthers pick up another win and move to 2-0-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers had another strong start as they were able to get on the board with a goal just over two minutes into the game. Plymouth State was able to strike again about halfway through the period to claim an early 2-0 lead. Despite the deficit, the Pilgrims were able to get some quality opportunities with a couple coming from freshman Emily Lenzen. The Panthers were able to tack on another with just over a minute remaining in the period to take a 3-0 lead heading into the break.
The scoring slowed down in the second period as neither team was able to find the back of the net for the majority of the period. However, both teams were able to get shots off as New England College added 14 shots in the period while Plymouth State had 27. The Panthers were eventually able to find the back of the net with just over a minute to play on a shorthanded goal off a follow-up shot from a breakaway opportunity. With the lone goal in the period, Plymouth State was able to take a 4-0 lead heading into the final frame of play.
The Panthers kept attacking in the third but the Pilgrims were able to hold strong defensively. Plymouth State had a four on one opportunity in the third that New England College was able to break up and Cianna Weir continued to make big stops. The defensive trend would continue as the game closed out with a 4-0 win for the Panthers.
GOALTENDERS
Weir made 46 saves in the contest on 50 shots on goal while for the Panthers, Amelia Julian recorded 11 stops for her first career shutout.
