NH. The New England College women's ice hockey team pick up their first win of the season, as they defeated Anna Maria College 4-0 in non-conference action Friday evening.
The Pilgrims are now 1-15-1 on the season, while the AMCats fall to 2-10-1.

HOW IT HAPPENEDThe Pilgrims opened the game with a goal from
Madison Nipper ripped the top corner for just about three minutes.
Kaylee Cross and
Julia Radcliffe assisted the goal, as they claimed an early 1-0 lead. Five minutes later New England College was able to find twine again as All Freeman put one past the AMCats goaltender for her first collegiate goal and a 2-0 lead. The Pilgrims continued their offensive pressure as Nipper got her second goal of the night for a 3-0 lead. Freeman and
Meghan Moore picked up assists on the goal. New England College held strong on the defensive end as they closed the period up 3-0.
Both teams had a power-play opportunity in the first 10 minutes of the second period but neither were able to capitalize as the score held at 3-0. The defense and goalies held strong on both sides as the score held at 3-0 heading into the final period. Anna Maria had 7 saves in the period while the Pilgrims had 10.
New England College found themselves on the penalty early in the third period but despite the disadvantage, they were able to gain an opportunity.
Tara Turcotte found herself on a breakaway and put a shot on goal that bounced over the goalies' pads and sputtered in front of the goal line before the AMCats swept it out as the game held at 3-0. The trend from the second period carried into the third as neither team was able to score and the Pilgrims held their 3-0 lead with five minutes remaining in the game. New England College was finally able to break the scoring drought as
Cortney Reyes found the back of the net for a 4-0 lead. Freeman and Moore were credited with assists on the goal.
GOALTENDERSCianna Weir made 25 saves as she earned the shutout. Gabrielle Ohanesian had 6 saves in 12 minutes for the Amcats. Gabrielle Gibson came in and picked up 29 saves in the contest.
