HOW IT HAPPENEDThe Hawks came out hot as they scored just over a minute into the game for an early 1-0 lead. Becker was able to score again less than a minute later to extend their lead to 2-0. Two minutes later the Pilgrims were able to join in on the action as
Tatiana Fedeneva scored her first collegiate goal assisted by
Tara Turcotte to bring things to 2-1. Despite the early flurry, no more goals were scored in the period as the Hawks carried a 2-1 lead into the second period.
The trend that ended the first period carried into the second as each team struggled to score and Becker held onto their 2-1 lead halfway through. With just over five minutes to play the Hawks broke the scoring drought and took a 3-1 lead. New England College would respond quickly as Fedeneva scored her second of the night on a power-play opportunity.
Tara Turcotte and
Kaylee Cross were credited with assists on the goal. The score would hold for the remainder of the period as Becker took a narrow 3-2 lead into the third period.
The Hawks struck first in the final period of play as they extended their lead to 4-2 seven minutes in. Again the Pilgrims responded quickly as Turcotte made things 4-3 just over two minutes later with Fedeneva and Cross picking up assists on the goal. Becker added a short-handed goal with just under three minutes to play as they closed out the game with a 5-3 win.
GOALTENDERSSean D'urso made 44 saves in the contest. Madelyn Morgan picked up 36 saves for the Hawks in the win.
