Ross Earns NECC Rookie of the Year, Softball Places Five on All-Conference Teams

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MARSHFIELD, Mass. The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced its 2019 Softball All-Conference teams and major award winners on Tuesday morning. The awards were voted on by the conference's nine coaches following the conclusion of the regular season.

Daelyn Ross grabbed the NECC's Rookie of the Year award and earned the first base position on the All-Conference First-Team. Taylor Barbour, Chanel Welch, and Alexa Scribner joined Ross on the First-Team while Shawnie Clark earned a position on the Third-Team. Barbour earned one of the two First-Team pitching positions, Welch grabbed the top second base position, Scribner earned one of three outfield positions while Clark found one of three outfield spots on the Third-Team.

The NECC's Rookie of the Year slugged eight homeruns total, six in conference play both lead the Pilgrims. She is tied for first in conference homeruns and tied for second in the conference for the whole season. Ross posted a .414 batting average which ranks second on the team and drove in 40 runs this season. She earned the Rookie of the Week honor once this season while also earning the Player of the Week honor for the same week.

Barbour earned 15 wins this season while posting a 1.31 ERA which ranks second in the NECC. She struck out a team high 148 batters which is good for second in the NECC. Barbour earned the Pitcher of the Week honor three times this season.

Welch batted .356 in 31 appearances this season. She recorded 36 hits and drove in 20 runs while scoring 27, which is third on the team.

Scribner led the Pilgrims offense with a .442 batting average. She recorded 23 hits in 52 at-bats from the top spot in the Pilgrim lineup. She also stole a program record 22 bases this season.

The Pilgrims are in action on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Nichols College to wrap-up their regular season before entering the NECC playoff tournament.
