NASHUA, N.H. – The New England College softball team lost both ends of their double-header at Rivier University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Friday evening at the Raider Diamond in Nashua, New Hampshire. The Pilgrims – playing as the home team due to rescheduling – lost the first game, 4-1, before going down 11-1 in the nightcap.
GAME 1 – RIVIER 4, NEC 1
- The Pilgrims scored their sole run of the opener came in the bottom of the third. After a leadoff triple from sophomore center fielder Kate Gagne (Portsmouth, N.H.), an RBI single by sophomore first baseman Abigail Grimes (Baltimore, Md.) got NEC on the board.
- Gagne went three-for-four for the game. NEC senior pitcher Olivia Olson (North Haven, Conn.) allowed just one earned run over seven innings.
GAME 2 – RIVIER 11, NEC 1
- Game two saw the Raiders score 11 runs. Rivier junior second baseman Kylee Caetano (New Bedford, Mass.) led the way with two hits, a triple and three RBI.
- The Pilgrims got their lone run of game two in the bottom of the sixth inning when Grimes hit an RBI double to plate junior shortstop Grace Giesler (La Mirada, Calif.).
- Gagne went two-for-three in game two, combing to go five-for-seven on the day.
UP NEXT
- NEC is back on the field on Sunday when they travel to Johnson & Wales for a 12:00 p.m. double-header against the Wildcats.
