Late Game Heroics Give Pilgrims Sweep Over Lesley

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HENNIKER, N.H. The New England College softball team rolled to a game one victory before needing late-game heroics to sweep their New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) doubleheader over Lesley University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One New England College 9, Lesley University 0
The Pilgrims struck first, in their first at-bats as Daelyn Ross doubled to left field to score Chanel Welch. Emily Nelson added two more runs for NEC with a single to center field that scored Ross and Gabriella Marcheschi. Jasmin Alvarado kept the train rolling in the second inning when she scored Alexa Scribner on a ground out. The Pilgrims struck for three more runs in the third inning as Nelson singled up the middle for another RBI. Taylor Barbour doubled to left center field which scored Marcheschi and Alexa Scribner singled to score Barbour. Marcheschi reached base in the fourth inning on a fielder's choice that scored Destiny Helmedach before Nelson continued her hot day at the plate as she drove home Shawnie Clark for her fourth RBI on a three-for-three day at the plate.

Barbour grabbed her 11th win of the season after throwing 5.0 innings. She struck out six batters while allowing two hits from the pitching circle.

Game Two New England College 6, Lesley University 5
Lesley got off to a hot start as Jordan Day hit a two-run home run to left field, which gave the Lynx a 2-0 lead. The Pilgrims responded when Chanel Welch singled through the left side to score Scribner, which cut the lead in half. Lindsey Jensen legged out an infield single which scored Samantha Jensen to give the Lynx a two-run lead. They continued to extend their lead when Mahlia Medina reached on a fielder's choice which scored Kristen DiCicco. The Lynx led 4-1 at the end of the second inning. The Pilgrims struck four times in the fourth inning on a two-RBI single by Helmedach and a two-RBI double by Ross. The four run inning gave the Pilgrims a 5-4 lead. However, Lesley would capitalize on a Pilgrim error in the sixth inning to tie the game at five. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Ross would hit her team leading fifth homerun of the season which proved to be the deciding run as the Lynx went three up and three down in the last half inning of play.

Farone earned the start and was chased after 2.0 innings of play. She allowed four runs on four hits. Barbour came on in relief, allowing just one hit over the remaining 5.0 innings of play. She struck out six batters in her 12th win of the season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-This was the third and fourth meeting all-time between the Pilgrims and Lynx. NEC is now 3-1 against the Lynx.
