NEC tacked on another run in the fourth inning, as
Jasmin Alvarado singled home
Taylor Barbour. In the sixth inning, the Pilgrims tallied three runs on three hits, extending the NEC advantage to 8-0.
John Jay would finally get on the board in the bottom of the seventh, as they plated a run on a wild pitch.
Barbour went the distance for the Pilgrims, striking out 13 while allowing just three base runners.
Game Two New England College 16, John Jay 10New England College played from ahead in the early goings, as they plated nine runs in the top of the first inning. Ross doubled home a pair, before scoring seven more runs on five Bloodhound errors.
After NEC plated one more run in the top of the second due to a fielder's choice, John Jay struck twice in the bottom half of the inning. Destiny Helmedach hit a solo home run to left field, putting the Pilgrims up 11-3.
The Bloodhounds would cut the deficit down to seven (11-4) with a single to right center field, before New England College scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning, with a Rachel Senechal single and a Chanel Welch sacrifice fly.
John Jay would get within three after six runs in the bottom of the fourth, capped off by a two-RBI single off the bat of Nicole Lopez. The Pilgrims would pull away down the stretch, as they plated one run in the fifth, sixth, and seventh.
Barbour finished the game off for New England College, as the sophomore pitched the final 3.1 innings with seven strikeouts.
Inside the Numbers - This was the third and fourth meeting between the two schools, NEC has collected wins in all four meetings.
- Barbour set a new career-high in strikeouts, with 13. This was the third time in her career that she has had double-digit strikeouts.
