How it HappenedGame One New England College 2, York College 0Neither team could generate offense as the opposing pitching staff and defenses kept them at bay. It wasn't until the sixth inning when Rachel Senechal scored on an error. In the top of the seventh, Taylor Dill doubled to right center field, scoring Shawnie Clark giving the Pilgrims the 2-0 lead.
In the pitching circle,
Taylor Barbour went the distance, striking out four, while allowing just three hits. Taylor Lindsay went all seven innings for the Spartans, the freshman gave up one earned run, while striking out 11 on the day.
Game Two Penn State Brandywine 8, New England College 7Game two for New England College was the exact opposite, compared to game one. Penn State jumped out in the top of the second, as the Nittany Lions scored three unearned runs in the frame. The Pilgrims answered with six runs in the bottom half of the inning
Izzabella Phelps had an RBI single to left field. Chanel Welch picked up an easy RBI with a bases-loaded walk, prior to Senechal doubled down the left field line, scoring two. NEC would add two more, as
Daelyn Ross reached on an error by the right fielder.
Penn State responded in the top of the fourth as they plated four runs, capped off by a two-run single from Alexandra Szpindor. The Nittany Lions would tack on another run in the fifth inning, as Arden Rabiger scored on an error.
In the bottom of the sixth, Alice Faenza would cross the plate on a throwing error by the Penn State catcher, making it 8-7 Nittany Lions.
Inside the Numbers - Between the two games, the Pilgrims pitching staff allowed just two earned runs on the day.
