Striking nine minutes later, Eickhoff made it a 2-0 game by corralling a pass at the right point, and blasting a shot over the pad of NEC
Jackie Clark.
Jamie McNamara extended the Mammoths lead to 3-0 with 4:31 remaining in the stanza following a perfect chip off the boards byAnne Malloythat found McNamara at center ice. Deking to her forehand, the Dedham, Mass. native beat the keeper for an easy score.
The Pilgrims nearly got on the board 4:39 into the second period, with Tara Turcotte intercepting a pass at the defensive blue line. However, her pass intended for Vicki Shaw to give Shaw a breakaway was just out of reach as Dobbins was able to come out of the net and deflect the puck to the corner.
Following the scare, Amherst turned up the offensive pressure to net three goals in a three-minute span to make it 6-0 in favor of the home team. Entering the zone on a breakaway with 13:16 on the clock Toupal registered her first of three goals in the stanza, powering a wrist shot into the bottom left hand corner.
Up a skater 2:09 later, Toupal found nylon once again, gathering a cross-ice dish fromKatelyn Pantera in the slot and sliding a shot inside the left post.
Emma Flynn capped off the quick three-goal onslaught with 10:08 to play, one-touching a pass from Toupal in the slot through the legs of the Pilgrim netminder.
Avoiding the shut out, New England College broke through in the 36th minute. Up a skater on the power play, Morgan Lamos sent a pass to Kristen Dukette on the right point who ripped a wrist shot off the near post and into the netting.
Logging a hat trick on a short-handed score and her fourth point of the tilt with 2:02 on the clock, Toupal found nylon following a tenacious forecheck by Hunyadi. Forcing a turn over, Hunyadi corralled the puck and skated behind the goal before finding Toupal out in front for the goal.
