Football Ends Pre-Varsity Season at Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. – The New England College football team lost the final game of their Pre-Varsity season on Sunday at Anna Maria College at Caparso Field in Paxton, Massachusetts, losing 34-7 to the host AMCATS.

HIGHLIGHTS

NEC freshman defensive back Chris Morgan (Epping, N.H.) picked up the first highlight of the day for the Pilgrims, intercepting the AMCATS on the hosts' second drive of the day.
The 'Grims had their best chance to get on the board late in the second quarter when NEC sophomore quarterback Icean Taylor (Manchester, N.H.) found freshman wide receiver Gavin Auger (Derry, N.H.) on a deep throw to take the visitors deep into Anna Maria territory. But the drive stalled and the Pilgrims went into halftime still scoreless.
The 'Grim defense came out of the gate storming in the second half, as NEC freshman defensive back CJ Taylor (Manchester, N.H.) picked off the Anna Maria passer on their first offensive series, giving the Pilgrims prime field position at the AMCAT 34.
On the ensuing drive, NEC freshman quarterback Jackson Lombardo (Medford, Mass.) found Icean Taylor on a pass to take the Pilgrims to the ten. Two plays later, Lombardo found Auger for the touchdown to get the 'Grims on the board as they cut the lead to 28-7 after an extra point from freshman kicker Jackson Kirsch (Chester, N.H.).
That would be as close as NEC would come, however, despite an outstanding quarterback pressure on fourth down by freshman defensive back Ethan Cenesca (Manchester, N.H.) and freshman defensive lineman Erik Menger (Stratham,N.H.).

UP NEXT

NEC concludes their pre-varsity season with an impressive 4-3 record. Next season, the Pilgrims will begin varsity play as part of the Conference of New England. Congratulations to this year's squad for getting the ball rolling!
