HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College men's wrestling team lost two matches during their New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Tri-match on Saturday at Bridges Gymnasium in Henniker, New Hampshire, losing 47-0 to the Coast Guard Academy before falling just short in a 28-20 result to Norwich University.
RESULTS – BEARS OF COAST GUARD 47, PILGRIMS OF NEC 0
- NEC freshman Michael Follo (Derry, N.H.) lost a 4-0 decision in a valiant effort at the 125-pound weight class to CGA sophomore Nikko Beato (San Diego, Calif.) to open the match.
- NEC graduate Chris DeRosa (Billerica, Mass.) lost an 8-0 decision to CGA junior Chase Randall (Spokane, Wash.) at 133 pounds.
- NEC junior John Lafferty (Woburn, Mass.) lost 17-7 to CGA sophomore Owen Woolcott (Port Matilda, Penn.) in a decision at 141 pounds.
- NEC junior Zach Soda (Burlington, Mass.) fell short 14-5 in a decision to CGA sophomore Nathan Fitt (Branchville, N.J.) at 149 pounds.
- NEC freshman Andrew Piedrahita (Westford, Mass.), competing at 157 pounds, lost by technical fall to CGA senior Noah Caskey (Montville, Conn.), 19-4.
- NEC freshman Dominic DeMaio (Methuen, Mass.) came up short in a 19-2 technical fall to CGA senior Steven Rochard (Arlington, Va.) at 165 pounds.
- NEC sophomore Kyle Gora (Hudson, N.H.) couldn't pull out the win at 174 pounds, as CGA senior Joe Chapman (Oak Park, Ill.) pulled through in a 17-0 technical fall.
- CGA freshman Caden Stout (St. Clairsville, Ohio) won by fall (2:21) over NEC senior Maxwell Ross (Owings Mills, Md.) at 184 pounds.
- CGA senior Coy Spooner (Peoria, Ariz.) won by technical fall (15-0) at 197 pounds over NEC senior Nathaniel Philion (Charlton, Mass.).
- CGA sophomore Carl DiGiorgio (Doylestown, Penn.) iced it with a forfeit win at 285 pounds.
- In exhibition action, CGA freshman Jackson Bauer (Southampton, N.J.) won by decision (15-8) over NEC junior Wyatt Gentile (Sunset Beach, N.C.).
- CGA freshman Dan Williams (Wilmington, Del.) won by fall (0:31) against NEC senior Malik Keresey (Pittsfield, Maine).
- CGA freshman Robert Rerras (Herndon, Va.) won by fall (0:59) versus NEC sophomore Joe Gangi (Methuen, Mass.).
- Coast Guard sophomore Jacob Woodburn (Greensboro, N.C.) got a technical fall (29-3) win over freshman Michael Palma (Londonderry, N.H.).
- CGA junior Kenny Marra (Salem, Ohio) picked up the fall (2:20) oved Ross.
RESULTS – CADETS OF NORWICH 28, PILGRIMS OF NEC 20
- Norwich junior Jabari Pinkney (Jessup, Md.) opened the match with a major decision (14-4) over Follo at 125 pounds.
- DeRosa picked up the first NEC win of the day with a 8-3 major decision over Norwich sophomore Carver Moyer (Easton, Pa.) at 133 pounds.
- Lafferty gave the Pilgrims an 8-4 lead on team scoring with a 17-2 technical fall win at 141 pounds over Norwich freshman James Hoyt (Hopkinton, Mass.).
- Soda, the Pilgrim of the Month for this past November, put NEC ahead 14-4 with a win-by-fall (2:59) at 149 pounds over Norwich sophomore Greyson Merola.
- Piedrahita gave NEC their fourth straight win, that coming by fall at 2:29 at the 157 pound class over freshman Will Kisatsky.
- From that point, however, it was all Cadets. Norwich senior Joshua Ducharme (Tyngsboro, Mass.) prevailed at 165 pounds over DeMaio, winning by fall (2:28) to get the visitors back into the match, now down 20-10.
- Norwich senior Kyle Merritt (Hope Valley, R.I.) won by decision (10-4) at 174 pounds over Gora, followed by a 21-18 decision win at 184 pounds by sophomore Simon Taraska (Willowick, Ohio) over Philion.
- The Cadets took the lead on a pinfall win (0:42) at 197 pounds, as Norwich junior Thoren Berg (Holliston, Mass.) downed Ross. A forfeit win at 285 pounds for junior Mason Sprinkel (Bel Air, Maryland) iced it.
- In exhibition action, DeMaio won by fall (1:15) over Norwich freshman Jonathan Neypes (Columbia, Md.).
- Moyer picked up a fall (0:40) win over NEC senior Brayden Esposito (Orange, Conn.).
- Gangi earned a decision win (15-2) over Hoyt.
