Box Score

BOXSCORE

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's soccer team drew a 1-1 tie against visiting the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) on Sunday afternoon at Don Melander Field in Henniker, New Hampshire in non-conference action.

THE BASICS
Score:                    University of Maine at Presque Isle 1, New England College 1
Records:               Pilgrims 0-5-2| Owls 1-2-3

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first half saw the Pilgrims as the aggressor, recording several scoring opportunities only to come up short. The teams went into halftime tied at zero.
  • Six minutes into the second half, the Owls nearly went ahead on a short kick in front of the goal from junior forward Alexis Ireland (Howland, Maine), only for NEC freshman goalkeeper Hollie Bomba           (Seymour, Conn.) to make the diving save. Two minutes later, Ireland had a another scoring opportunity off a header, but Bomba was again up to the challenge, turning the visitors away.
  • In the 59th minute, Ireland finally broke through with a shot that glanced off an NEC defender as UMPI went ahead 1-0.
  • With 16:12 remaining and time running out for the Pilgrims, NEC turned to freshman midfielder Briana Lopes (East Providence, R.I.) who took a short pass from freshman defender Chloe Beausoleil (Groton, Mass.) and broke away from the defense to finish with a blast to the bottom left corner of the goal for her first career score of her collegiate career as the game was knotted at one-all.
  • With 1:20 remaining, Ireland nearly won it for the Owls with a short kick just to the left of the goal. The shot deflected off the post, however, and the tie would hold up.
