HENNIKER, N.H. – Facing one of the top programs not only in the region but in the nation in Tufts University, the New England College women's soccer team lost 9-0 to the visiting Jumbos on Sunday at Don Melander Field in Henniker, New Hampshire in non-conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tufts, currently the third-ranked team in the nation and the 17th ranked team in the nation according to the most recent United Soccer Coaches (USC) poll, received two goals apiece from freshman forward Camille Lu (Hillsborough, Calif.) and sophomore forward Juliana Rosen (Woodside, Calif.) enroute to a 7-0 lead at halftime.
- In the 28th minute of the first half, the 'Grims had their best scoring opportunity of the day when junior forward Julia Lanoie (Manchester, N.H.) had back-to-back shots in rapid succession. But the first sailed just right of the net on a solo-breakaway and the second was secured by the Jumbos' keeper as NEC remained scoreless.
- In the 68th minute, Lu scored the first goal of the second half to complete the hat trick. She later scored her fourth goal in the 88th minute.
- Other scorers for the Jumbos included freshmen Caroline Kelly (Southborough, Mass.) and Elsi Aires (Westborough, Mass.).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- NEC freshman goalkeeper Hollie Bomba (Seymour, Conn.), facing the toughest test of her collegiate career, finished the first half with four saves. Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Bronowicki (Corona, Calif.) entered the game in relief at halftime and tallied nine stops in just one half.
- Tufts senior goalkeeper Kaelin Logue (Scituate, Mass.) picked up the win in net for the Jumbos, finishing with two saves in the first half.
- The Jumbos outshot the Pilgrims on the day, 34-4.
- NEC is now 0-2 all-time against Tufts, playing their first game of the series in 2021.
UP NEXT
- NEC will face their next challenge on Saturday when they travel to Mitchell College for a critical New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) match against the host Mariners, that coming at 1:00 p.m.
- Tufts is back on the field on Wednesday when they host Bridgewater State University in a 5:00 p.m. game.
