Box Score HENNIKER, N.H. The New England College women's volleyball team were able to defeat the Colby-Sawyer Chargers for the first time in program history, following a 3-1 decision Thursday evening in Bridges Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED
At the beginning of the first set, both teams traded point, before the Pilgrims slowly pulled away. Shirita Wimberly gave NEC the lead after back-to-back aces at 5-2. New England College continued to maintain a three or four-point lead until the score was 11-7, then the Pilgrims were able to finish off the set on a 14-10 run to take set one.
In the second set, the Chargers controlled momentum, as they started on a 7-1 run to begin the set, and New England College was not able to recover. Colby-Sawyer took the second set 25-13, despite a late push from the 'Grims. NEC rebounded in the third set, as they began the set, taking an early 8-1 advantage. The Chargers were able to tie the game at 13-12 and kept it until it was 18-16, but New England College was able to close out the set on a 9-0 run winning the set 25-18.
Colby-Sawyer capitalized on NEC errors at the beginning of the fourth set, as they took the first five points. The Pilgrims were able to slowly chip away at the deficit and would be able to tie the game at 12-12. Both teams would trade points in the tightly contested fourth set, but NEC regained the lead at 17-16, before closing out the set on a 9-3 run.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- This was the first time the New England College volleyball team has defeated Colby-Sawyer, as the Pilgrims were previously 0-3 against the Chargers.
-Dreka Griffin led the Pilgrims offense with 11 kills, while Tihani Ehia and Wimberly chipped in nine apiece.
- Maggie Dadmun and Riane Heyen each surpassed the 10+ assist barrier, as they recorded 16 and 13 assists respectively.
- Wimberly led New England College on the defensive end with 22 digs. Ehia also picked up 20 digs, while Jaycie Kodama registered 14 in the contest.
- With 11 service aces in the match, the Pilgrims are now 4-1 with 10+ aces.
