Women's Volleyball Wraps Up Texas Trip on Day 2

HENNIKER, N.H. - The New England College women's volleyball team closed out their two-day trip to Texas with a pair of losses to Howard Payne and the University of Dallas.

Match 1 vs Howard Payne: 0-3 (11-25, 18-25, 12-25)

The Pilgrims started the first set up 2-0 off an attack error from the Yellow Jackets and a kill from freshman Teagan Saner (Plains, Mont.). Howard Payne went on a 9-2 run before junior Samantha Winters (Dover, N.H.) and senior Aurora Gutierrez-Macias (El Paso, Tex.) registered a pair of kills.

Senior Kaylee Montgomery (Weare, N.H.) and senior Jamie Hansen (New Underwood, S.D.) both scored for the Pilgrims in the first set.

Montgomery registered two more kills to start the scoring for the Pilgrims in the second set to keep it within five points. Kills from Winters, sophomore LisaRaye Placencio (Maricopa, Ariz.), Hansen, and a service ace from senior Naydeen Martinez-Moreno (Henderson, Nev.) closed out the scoring for the Grims in the second set.

The third set started with a service ace from Gutierrez-Macias before Hansen, Placencio, Saner and junior Tyra Kelly (Fresno, Calif.) all collected kills to wrap up the first match of the day.

Match 2 vs University of Dallas (11-25, 13-25, 25-27)

The Crusaders scored three straight points to start the first set before graduate Alexandra Seijas-Quea (Fort Myers, Fla.) registered the first kill for the Pilgrims of the match. Winters (2), Montgomery, and Kelly (2) added five more kills between the three of them to go on a 5-3 run before Dallas closed out the set.

Six kills from Winters and two from Montgomery kept the Pilgrims close until the Crusaders finished the second set on a 10-2 run to jump out 2-0 on the match.

With their backs against the wall, the Pilgrims offense, led by Winters, kept the third set close until Dallas was able to sneak away with the 27-25 set victory to sweep the Pilgrims.
