Aybar Sets Single Season Hits Record In NECC Playoff Win Over Lesley

Box Score HENNIKER, N.H. The New England College baseball team overcame a quick deficit to down Lesley University in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Playoff action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lesley led after just the second pitch of the contest as Nicholas Ferragine hit a leadoff homerun to give the Lynx a 1-0 lead. They extended their lead in the fourth inning when Ryan Pumphret came across the plate on a passed ball. However, NEC would respond in the sixth inning a double down the left field line by Nick Powers scored Evan Delaney who ripped a single through the left side of the infield. On the double, Delaney would score from first. Powers was stranded at second in the inning but lead was now just one. After three quick half innings, the Pilgrims struck for four runs. Two quick outs started the inning like the one previous but a single by Xavier Nunez gave the Pilgrims some life. Luis Atiles walked to get two runners on base. Powers hit a ground-rule double to right field which scored Nunez and kept Atiles at third. Joe Maestu would clear the bases with one swing of the bat as he launched a ball over the left field fence to give NEC a 5-2 lead.

Joe Pascucci earned his fourth win of the season after allowing two runs, one earned on two hits in 7.0 innings of work. Manuel Alejandro came on to pitch the eighth inning while Dylan Champagne came on in the ninth to earn his second save of the season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-This was the third meeting between NEC and Lesley in baseball. The Pilgrims now lead the all-time series 2-1.
-This was also the third meeting of the season between the two schools. NEC is 2-1 against the Lynx.
-With his hit in the bottom of the first inning, Christian Aybar earned his 53rd hit of the 2019 season, which is a new program record.
