Box Score 2 HOLYOKE, Mass. The New England College baseball team pick up a doubleheader sweep over Elms College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action Saturday afternoon at Mackenzie Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENEDGame One New England College 8, Elms College 1Elms College would jump out the early lead in the bottom of the first inning, as Thomas Slane doubled home Kris Alverado. New England College would tie the game in the top of the second inning, as Evan Delaney would score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Joe Maestu. The Pilgrims would capture the lead in the top of the fifth, as
Christian Aybar crossed the plate on a
Connor Morin sac fly.
In the sixth inning, NEC would tack on three runs, as Xavier Nunez scored on a sac fly from Maestu before scoring on a
Manuel Andujar double.
Bobby Fulkerson would make it 5-1 NEC as he would score on a wild pitch. In the top of the seventh inning, Luis Atiles would pick up an RBI, as he was hit with a pitch. Maestu pushed it to 7-1 with another sacrifice fly, and
Bobby Fulkerson made it 8-1 as he singled home, Nunez.
Nick Powers picked up his fifth win of the season, after pitching 6.0 innings, scattering five hits, while striking out a season-high 10 batters. Colby Howe came in and pitched the seventh inning had a 1-2-3 inning to finish off game one.
Game Two New England College 4, Elms College 2For the second straight game, the Blazers would strike first, as Alverado drew a bases-loaded walk. New England College took the lead in the top of the third, as Morin singled home Aybar, before scoring on an Atiles single.
Elms College would tie the game up at two in the bottom of the third inning, as Cameron Griffin singled home Nathan Ayala. The back and forth game would continue, as the Pilgrims would regain the lead in the top of the fifth on an Evan Delaney single. Nunez would drive in an insurance run in the top of the seventh with a single, plating
Anderson Jimenez on the play.
Stanley Vargas picked up the win after pitching 5.0 innings, allowing just two runs, while striking out five. Manuel Alejandro closed out the game, after retiring six of the seven batters he faced over the final two innings.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS-This was the first-ever meeting between the two squads, as New England College leads 2-0.
- With a win in game one, the Pilgrims snapped a season-long seven game losing streak.
