HOW IT HAPPENEDNew England College jumped out to the early lead, as
Christian Aybar led off the game with a double to left field. After a Luis Atiles walked, the duo had a double steal, where the catchers throw sailed, leading to Aybar scoring. The Pilgrims would make it 2-0 later in the inning, as
Jeam Castillo ripped a single to right field, plating Atiles.
Keene State would finally get on the board in the bottom of the third, as Mac Struthers singled home Tom Meucci from second base. NEC would regain their two-run lead in the top of the fourth, as
Joe Maestu doubled to left field, driving in
Jose Guillermo on the play. The Owls would eventually tie the game up at three in the bottom of the fourth, as Michael Montembeault hit his first collegiate home run over the left field fence.
New England College would regain the lead in the top of the eighth inning, as Guillermo singled to left field, plating Atiles from third. In the bottom half of the frame, the Owls would plate four runs to take their first lead of the game.
Dylan Champagne got the start for the Pilgrims, going 7.1 innings scattering six hits while striking out 12.
