Box Score 2 NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. The New England College baseball team splits their doubleheaders with Worcester Polytechnic Institute at the New England Baseball Complex, non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENEDGame One WPI 22, New England College 21The Pilgrims jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, as Evan Delaney drove in
Christian Aybar with a single up the middle, while Manuel Alejandro scored on a groundout. The Engineers tied the game in the bottom of the inning, but both runs were unearned.
NEC exploded for seven runs in the top of the second, as Aybar drove in a pair with a ground-rule double, and
Connor Morin sent a three-run home run over the center field fence. Luis Atiles hit a routine fly ball to center field, but a gust of wind gave the junior a two-run long ball in the third inning, pushing the Pilgrims lead to 11-2, in the top of the third.
In the top of the fifth, Atiles picked up another RBI, as he doubled home Jameson Carey prior to back-to-back singles from Xavier Nunez and Delaney, making it 14-2 New England College. In the bottom half, WPI hit three home runs to cut the NEC lead down to seven (14-7). The Engineers continued to chip away at the deficit, as they plated three more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
With the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, Morin cleared the bases with a double down the left field line. WPI eventually took the lead in the bottom half of the frame, as they plated nine runs in the inning.
The back-and-forth game would continue in the top of the eighth, as
Bobby Fulkerson hit a solo shot over the right-field scoreboard, while Delaney hit the Pilgrims' fourth homer of the game putting NEC up 21-19.
Ryan Tropeano continued the home run derby, with a three-run shot in the bottom of the eighth, giving the game the final score.
Shayne Audet started the game for New England College, going five innings, and striking out 12.
Game Two New England College 6, WPI 5NEC carried their offense into game two, as the Pilgrims struck in the first inning again, as Delaney singled home Aybar. After WPI plated two in the bottom half of the first, New England College scored a pair of runs in the second, as two runs scored on an error.
Delaney continued his offensive tear at the plate, as the senior hit his second long ball of the day in the top of the third. After plating another run in the fourth, Tyrone Patterson cut into the Pilgrims lead with an RBI double to right center field.
In the eighth inning, Patterson hit a solo home run, cutting the Engineers' deficit down to two (6-4). WPI threatened in the bottom of the ninth, as the scored on a sacrifice fly to center field, but Andrew Brooks was cut down at third to end the game.
Nick Powers started game two for New England College, going 6.0 innings while striking out nine but allowing just two earned runs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS-This was the 7
th meeting all-time. WPI now has won six of seven meetings.
-With four home runs in game one, the Pilgrims is the most that they hit since they blast they hit four at Centenary (NJ) on March 15, 2018.
-21 runs are the most runs scored for New England College since they plated 21 against Castleton on April 3, 2018.
-Delaney went a combined 5-11 on the day with two home runs and eight RBI.
