HOW IT HAPPENED
New England College controlled action from the onset. After winning the first five points of the match, the Pilgrims did not look back. Dean would get within three (6-3) with an NEC service error, but New England College rattled off eight consecutive points to go up 14-3. The Bulldogs responded with back-to-back points, but NEC recorded three straight points to go up 17-5. Dean tried to make it close, but the Pilgrims were too much for the opposition, winning the first set 25-13.
Dean College would see their only lead of the match in the second set, as they went up 1-0 following a Kaitlyn Anderson kill, but that was short-lived. The Pilgrims ripped off eight-consecutive points, capped off with three-straight service aces from Shirita Wimberly. The Bulldogs would rally with five-straight, but NEC answered a 6-0 run of their own. New England College would continue to roll, as they closed out the second set on a 12-4 run, winning the second set 25-11.
In the third set, Dean College was within five points for the majority of the set, but with NEC up 20-15 the Pilgrims picked up the sweep following five-straight points including back-to-back aces from Riane Heyen.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Led by Wimberly with five, New England College as a team had 16 service aces. This is the eighth time this season the Pilgrims have 10+ aces. They are 7-1 in those contests.
-With a game-high 13 kills, Tihani Ehia has now eclipsed 200+ kills (207) and 200+ digs (221) for the second-straight season. She is the only player to do so at NEC.
