Box Score 2 HENNIKER, N.H.-The New England College volleyball team dropped both of their matches in Friday's tri-match against Elmira College and Plymouth State University. The middle match saw Plymouth State pick up a 3-2 victory over Elmira.
ELMIRA 3, NEC 0
The Soaring Eagles used runs of four or more in each of their sets to pull away from the Pilgrims in straight sets. Set scores were 25-18, 25-19, 25-19.
Sophomore Jada Small (Coconut Creek, Fla.) lead the Pilgrims in kills with six while classmate Kennedy Somavia (Red Bluff, Calif.) followed closely with five. Tihani Ehia (Kaneohe, Hawaii), Dreka Griffin (Calera, Ala.), and Jessica Ostrov (Mililani, Hawaii) each finished with 1.0 blocks. Kenzie Barron (Clearfield, Utah) has a team high 10 assists while Emma Kowalka (Kalispell, Mont.) was tied for a game-high in digs with 12.
NEC recorded eight service aces to Elmira's five in the three-set contest.
PLYMOUTH STATE 3, NEC 0
Ehia tallied a match-high nine kills, but it was not enough as NEC fell to the Panthers in straight sets, 25-21, 25-15, and 25-18.
Both teams hit in the positives, as Plymouth tallied 24 kills and made just 12 errors at the net to hit at .265. The Pilgrims recorded 31 kills of their own but committed 23 errors for a .091 hitting efficiency.
For Plymouth, Maria Wimpey tallied six kills, followed by Carabeth Norklun and Ari Linden with five kills apiece.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Pilgrims will hit the road for the first time this season as they travel to Keene, N.H. to take on in-state foes, Rivier University and Keene State College. The matches are part of the Granite State Challenge. The Pilgrims will return home for a Tuesday evening meeting with Regis College before making a trip next weekend to New Jersey to play Rutgers-Newark, Kean, and St. Joseph's-Long Island
