HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pilgrims had a few opportunities early in the first half but did not find the back of the net until the 23rd minute, when Emily LePage (West Greenwich, R.I.) collected the ball at midfield, took a dribble, and sent a beautiful pass through to the corner flag, where Bridgette Winters (Hillsboro, N.H.) was waiting to collect the ball, dodge a defender, and fire in for the go-ahead goal.
NEC put in two goals in the 60th minute, as Michaela Pomeroy (Thetford, Vt.) dished out assists to Winters and Leeann Demirjian (Needham, Mass.) at the 59:04 and 59:58 marks, respectively, for a 3-0 advantage.
Pomeroy handed out her third helper of the day just under eight minutes later, when she fed Paxton Couture (Rochester, N.H.) from the right sideline. Couture took a big step with the ball and fired in for the fourth Pilgrim goal of the game.
