HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pilgrims struck first after nearly 20 minutes of scoreless play. Michaela Pomeroy (Thetford, Vt.) scored the first goal of the game on a breakaway that drew the Elms keeper out of the net, giving Pomeroy the opportunity to chip it high over the keeper's head.

Pomeroy would strike again in the first half, finishing a ball close to the right post off of a free kick by Dawn Johnson (Farmingdale, N.Y.) that was tapped by Bridgette Winters (Hillsboro, N.H.) on the way by.

The score remained unchanged for over half an hour after that until Elms got on the board with their lone goal by Shannon Denault.

Denault's score came on a penalty kick, the third called in the game. The first, for NEC, was shot wide, and the second, for Elms, was saved by NEC keeper Kayla Pugliese (Mamaroneck, N.Y.).

With less than five minutes left to play, Tara Bainbridge (South Hadley, Mass.) won a foot race to a loose ball and tapped it in four her fourth goal of the season.

GOALKEEPERS
NEC's Pugliese and Elms' Rebecca Molin both recorded eight saves apiece in the contest.
