HOW IT HAPPENED
NECused its quick-paced offense to generate plenty of opportunities right from the first touch and eventually broke through in the 20
th minute as
Jaycie Triandafilou(Newburyport, Mass.) buried a pass from Michaela Pomeroy(Thetford, Vt.).
The Pilgrims continued to press for the remainder of the opening half registering 33 shots, but most of those came from distance and were initially ineffective. However, in the 40
th minute Emilie Nowakowski(Meriden, Conn.) found the range as she lifted a lob shot over the outstretched arms of the Eagles' keeper after taking a pass from Tara Bainbridge (South Hadley, Mass.). Less than a minute later it was Bainbridge who scored on a similarly-arced shot after settling a pass from Paige LePore(Warwick, R.I.).
The second half saw the Pilgrims add to their lead in the 62
nd minute whenPomeroytapped home an easy marker from the doorstep of the goal after Casey had made a great save on a shot by Emily LePage(West Greenwich, R.I.) but was unable to corral the rebound.
Shannon Rosemond(Weymouth, Mass.) closed out the scoring for the visitors late with a pair of goals from
Allison Micozzi (Cambridge, Mass.)and Shamiyah Lynch (Brooklyn, N.Y.), respectively.
GOALKEEPERS
Three Pilgrim keepers shared in the shutout with starter Kayla Pugliese(Mamaroneck, N.Y.) picking up the victory.
Katelynn Brewster (Stillwater, N.Y.) and Molly Gringas (Derry, N.H.) relieved Pugliese in the second half with Brewer picking up the lone save. Casey picked up the loss in goal for the Eagles despite her heroic effort making 25 saves.
