HENNIKER, N.H.-The New England College volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday, downing Nichols 3-1 in the first match of the day before falling to Elms 3-0 in the final match. In between, Elms picked up a 3-0 victory over the Bison.
With today's results, NEC now sits at 4-6 overall.
NEC 3, NICHOLS 0
In the first match of the day, the Pilgrims picked up two set victories, 25-21 and 25-20, before Nichols fought back for a 25-23 victory in the third set. The Pilgrims reversed the score in the fourth set with their own 25-23 win for the match victory.
The Pilgrims had one of their best offensive outings of the season, tallying 40 kills and hitting at a .103 efficiency. It marks the second-highest kills total for the Pilgrims, second only to their program opener against Southern Vermont on September 1
st.
Kaitlyn Walker (Cottonwood, Calif.) led the Pilgrims with 11 kills, followed by Kennedy Somavia (Red Bluff, Calif.) with 10 and
Kayleigh MacDougall (Farmington, N.H.) with six.
Defensively, Emma Kowalka (Kalispell, Mont.) scooped up 16 digs, followed by Meaghan Six (Manchester, N.H.) with 15. Six also served a match-high four aces.
Gabryella Serrano (Bridgewater, Mass.) had 36 assists for the Pilgrims.
For Nichols, J'Ena Baker had match-highs in both kills (22) and digs (19).
ELMS 3, NEC 0
The Blazers averaged 14.00 kills per set against NEC to pick up a 3-0 victory by scores of 25-23, 25-21, and 25-17.
Elms tallied 42 kills, led by Danielle Redding with 14 and Hannah Pichardo and Rachel Magnuson with nine apiece.
NEC put up a hard fight, posting 32 kills of their own. Somavia led the effort with eight, while Dreka Griffin (Calera, Ala.) added seven.
Six tallied 13 digs for her ninth-straight match in double-figures.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Pilgrims hit the road three times next week. On Monday they travel to Fitchburg State for a 7:00 p.m. game. They head to Regis on Wednesday, followed by a tri-match at Mount Ida with Lesley on Friday.
