HENNIKER, N.H. - Sophomore goalkeeper Kayden Lallier Whissell (Stevensville, Ont.) of the NEC women's ice hockey team has been named the Little East Conference (LEC) Goalkeeper of the Week for the week ending on January 11th.
The goaltender saw action in just one of the team's two games this week, but it was an extremely impactful 60 minutes between the pipes. She matched a season-high with 45 saves in the Pilgrims' 2-1 road win over the University of Southern Maine to give NEC their third conference win of the season.
NEC won the game despite being outshot 46-15 as Kayden proved to be a difference maker in net. Permitting just one goal on the evening, Lallier Whissell notched a season-best .978 save percentage in the win. Her season total improved to .937 - a mark that ranks third in the LEC. Her goals-against average decreased to 2.48 this year.
This is the second time an NEC goalie has been recognized with the weekly award with Anna McGinty (Duxbury, Mass.) having been recognized in mid-November. The two have combined to lead the Little East with 40.29 saves per game while sitting second in save percentage at .940.
Next up for the 'Grims, the team will host VTSU-Castleton for a pair of games on Friday, January 16th, and Saturday, January 17th, as both teams will enter the weekend series with a 3-5-0 record in conference play.
