NWCA RELEASE

HENNIKER, N.H. - The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) has announced that freshman Jaclyn Dehney (Pelham, N.H.) of the NEC women's wrestling team has been named the January NCAA Women's National Wrestler of the Month.  

Dehney had a standout month, first earning Female Pilgrim of the Month honors and now earning some top recognition at the national stage. The New Hampshire native went a perfect 12-0 in the month of January and has remained a perfect 22-0 on the season. 10 of her 12 victories in January came by pinfall.  

The freshman went 4-0 at the Ursinus duals on January 12th, 3-0 at the Western New England Duals on January 26th, and 4-0 at the Will Abele Open on January 18th to earn a first-place tournament finish in the 131-pound weight class. Dehney also rode a 5-0 record to place first in the Bobcat Open at Frostburg University on February 1st – winning all five matches by pinfall – four of which did not last longer than a minute.  

This recognition comes after her recent selection as January's Wrestler of the Month for Region 1 as announced by the NWCA yesterday and following Dehney's placement atop the NCAA Regional rankings at the 131-pound weight class by the NWCA on February 7th. In the NCWA's national rankings, Dehney made another appearance as the 8th ranked wrestler at 131 pounds in the country. 

Dehney will now take her unblemished season record into the team's weekend competition – the NCWWC Regionals hosted by Elmira College. The action is set to begin at 10:00 AM on Sunday, February 23rd, with a trip to Nationals in Coralville, Iowa on the line.
