CORALVILLE, Iowa – Two student-athletes from the New England College women's wrestling team competed at the at National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships on Friday at the Xtreme Arena in Coralville, Iowa.
NEC freshman
Jaclyn Dehney (Pelham, N.C.), competing in the 131-pound bracket, stormed her way into the quarterfinals of the championship, winning by fall in the first two rounds with a 1:49 victory over Lillian Sherer (Shohola, Pa.) of Lock Haven University in the first and a 2:59 win over
Ella Finding (Port Moody, B.C.) of Simon Fraser University in the second.
In the quarterfinals, Dehney faced
Viktorya Torres (Granger, Washington) of McKendree University, taking only her second loss of the season in a 10-0 technical fall.
NEC sophomore
Alexis Dobson (Manchester, N.H.) capped off her second consecutive season at the Nationals in the 103-pound bracket, falling short in the first round to
Sienna Caruso (Ashland, Ore.) of Lindenwood University by fall in 1:22. Dobson rebounded in the first round of the consolation bracket, picking up a 15-10 decision over
Summer Batts (Pataskala, Ohio) of Lock Haven University. In round two of the consolation, Dobson saw her season come to an end with a 1:27 fall loss to
Maddison Heinzer (San Jose, Calif.) of Colorado Mesa University. Dobson's brilliant second season with the Pilgrims ends with a 17-6 record.
Dehney will continue her run in the consolation bracket on Saturday.
