Hornsby Nets Little East Player of the Week Honors

HENNIKER, N.H. - Junior forward Alexis Hornsby (Atkinson, N.H.) of the NEC women's ice hockey team was named the Little East Conference (LEC) Player of the Week for the week ending on November 16th, becoming the first 'Grim to earn an LEC weekly award.

Hornsby lifted the Pilgrims to their first LEC win with a 3-2 win over Keene State on Friday night, handing the Owls their second loss of the season in overtime. The Owls seized control of the game with two goals in the second period, but Hornsby and the 'Grims responded in the third.

After senior Meadow Gilchrist (Stamford, Conn.) scored with 7:22 left in the third period to pull the Pilgrims within one, Hornsby joined in on the scoring just 26 seconds later with the equalizer that would send the game to overtime.

The Pilgrims dominated in overtime, taking all four shots of the extra period. 1:43 into overtime, Hornsby converted off a Keene State turnover and beat the keeper in a 1-on-1 fast break for the game-winner. The goal was the junior's second of the game and third of the season – a mark that sits tied for fourth in the Little East.

Hornsby and the 'Grims are set to host Plymouth State on Friday at 4:00 PM as the team continues conference play.
