HENNIKER, N.H. – For the fourth time this season, New England College freshman forward
Alexis Hornsby (Atkinson, N.H.) of the NEC women's ice hockey team has been named the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Rookie of the Week in an announcement by the conference on Monday, this for week ending February 4, 2024.
Hornsby became the first Pilgrim in almost a decade to reach the 12-goal plateau on Friday at Norwich, giving the 'Grims a 1-0 lead late in the first period. This coming after she scored the game-winner against Worcester State earlier in the week and also picked up an assist during the 2-0 victory.
"With Lex being recognized for the 4th time this season truly shows how she is a spark for this program and represents the future for NEC ice hockey." head coach
Mackenzie Meegan said of her star rookie. "She continues to work hard each day and drive results and we continue to be excited about her future as a Pilgrim."
With 12 goals on the season, Hornsby matches the total of former Pilgrim great Rachel Vigliano.
At press time, Hornsby was second in the NEHC in goals and third in points in this, her rookie season.
Hornsby was previously recognized as the conference rookie of the week for the weeks ending November 26
th , December 3
rd and December 10
th.
NEC is back on the ice next Friday when they host the University of Southern Maine in a 6:00 p.m. NEHC game.
