HOW IT HAPPENED

  • William Smith's first goal came in just under four minutes into the game when junior defender Annabel Ziskin (Smithtown, N.Y.) curled around a handful of 'Grims and stroked in a straight-shot goal as senior forward Mackenzie O'Neil (Wellesley, Mass.) and sophomore defender Fiona Gallagher (Oak Park, Ill.) were there on the assists from the breakaway.
  • One period later, the Herons added their second goal that started to put NEC away. At 5:01 remining in the second period... 18 seconds off a center-ice faceoff, senior forward Sydney Foster (Danvers, Mass.) scored in a drop-in shot off a simple short pass from sophomore forward Seneca Urban (Superior, Colo.).
  • In the final period, William Smith was able to strike in a dagger goal with 3:01 remaining where junior forward Lauren Legler (Beaconsfield, Quebec) was on the shooting end after a couple of great stops by NEC. Senior forward Brittany Foster (Danvers, Mass.) and senior defender Ava Cornforth (Milton, Mass.) were credited with the assists.
