Men’s Basketball Caps off Electrifying Win over the Lions on Senior Day

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College men's basketball team pulls off a thriller win on senior day against visiting Eastern Nazarene College on Saturday afternoon at the Bridges Gymnasium in Henniker, New Hampshire in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action.  

THE BASICS 
Score: Eastern Nazarene College 77, New England College 76 
Records: Pilgrims 6-17, 2-3 NECC | Lions 10-13, 3-2 NECC 

 
TURNING POINTS 

  • In a tight battle, with no team leading more than six points, ENC escapes the first half with a 40-39 lead over NEC. 

  • Freshman guard Michael Hills (Baton Rouge, Lous.) and freshman guard Jasen Stovall (Tampa, Fla.) led the 'Grims in the first half with eight points each. 

  • The second half showed no letdown of excitement as both teams kept on trading buckets into the final seconds. Sophomore guard Alex Williams (Miramar, Fla.) came up with a huge block on a three-point shot with 0:04 remaining to seal the deal with NEC winning 77-76. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Hills led all 'Grims in scoring with 17 off the bench, while also adding five rebounds and four assists. 

  • The Lions were led in scoring by sophomore Kobe Jones (Picayune, Miss.) and junior Bernie McGuinness (Cumming, Ga.) with 18 each. 

  • Freshman guard Kyle Dzarnowski (Boca Raton, Fla.) also came off the bench for the 'Grims and scored 12 points. 

  • Along with both teams scoring at a high clip, both shot great from the field with NEC shooting 30-58 (51.7%) and ENC shooting 26-61 (42.6%) from the field. 

  • The 'Grims dominated the paint with a 40-18 advantage. 

  • No team held a lead greater than seven points the whole game. 

SENIOR DAY 

•           Prior to the game, the New England College men's basketball program and athletics department recognized this year's senior class as part of senior day. Guard Kyle Inglis (Burlington, Mass.), forward Nick Gomeau (Enfield, Conn.) and guard Elijah Guillomaitre (Roxbury, Mass.) were honored by coaches, teammates, family members and fans for all of their accomplishments at NEC both on and off the field. Although their time with the program may be coming to an end, they will forever be a part of the 'Grims family. 

UP NEXT 

  • Up next for NEC, they look to build momentum on the road on Wednesday February 15th as they take on the Badgers of Northern Vermont-Johnson in non-conference action, as tip-off at Carter Varsity Gym will be at 6:00 PM. 

  • Eastern Nazarene will also hit the road on Tuesday February 14th to play Lesley University at Medford High School (Mass.) in NECC action, with tip-off at 7:00 PM.
