Lindberg’s Hat-Trick Flourishes Women’s Ice Hockey against Trailblazers

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The New England College women's ice hockey team closes its weekend with another dominant win, this time on the road at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Saturday evening at the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rink in non-conference action.  

THE BASICS 
Score: New England College 5, MCLA 1
Records: Pilgrims 3-9-0, 0-7-0 NEHC | Trailblazers 2-9-0, 0-4-0 ECHA 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • NEC was led by sophomore forward Olivia Lindberg (Stockholm, Sweden) who scored a hat-trick (three goals) with each goal coming in its own period. The first came in at the 12:59 mark in the first period with an assist from sophomore defender Jordan Pond (Gardner, Mass.). The second came at 12:38 in the second period with an assist from freshman forward Alexis Hornsby (Atkinson, N.H.). The third and final goal for Lindberg came with 12:32 left in the game in the third period and was assisted by sophomore forward Meadow Gilchrist (Stamford, Conn.). 
  • Hornsby was the 'Grims' only other scorer in the big win as her first goal came just 2:36 into the game which would be the first goal of the game. Her second goal came with 8:11 remaining in the first period as she was assisted by graduate forward Mikayla Vincent (Newburyport, Mass.). 
  • MCLA's only goal of the game was put in at the 16:27 mark in the second period as junior forward Alexandrea Bednar (Vita, Mb.) scored the goal and was assisted by freshman forward Rebekah Ade (Yucca Valley, Calif.). 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • NEC freshman goaltender Lucy Armour (Falmouth, Mass.) plyed all 60 minutes cand came away with 27 saves along with the win. 
  • Trailblazers' freshman goaltender Kaia Borski (Eagle, Colo.) tallied 37 saves but could not get the bragging rights over her sister Isabella. 
  • Despite losing the contest MCLA won the faceoff battle 26-23 over the 'Grims. 
  • NEC got 42 shots on goal compared to the Trailblazers' 28 shots on goal. 

UP NEXT 

  • NEC is back on the ice on Saturday, December 9th when they host the Lancers of Worcester State University at the Lee Clement Arena before the long winter break. Puck-drop is set for 3:00 PM. 
  • MCLA plays their next game at the Rockett Arena where they go up against the Vikings of Salem State University on Friday, December 8th with a start time at 7:00 PM.
