Men’s Basketball Snaps Losing Streak vs. Vermont Tech

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College men's basketball team won 77-61 against visiting Vermont Technical College on Thursday evening at the Bridges Gymnasium in Henniker, New Hampshire in non-conference action.

TURNING POINTS
  • The 'Grims led by as much as 18 in the first half, going into halftime with a 43-27 lead.
  • In the second half, the Knights of Vermont Tech rallied, using a 13-2 run capped off with a three-pointer from freshman guard Tristen Armas (Saginaw, Mich.) with 15:56 to go in the game to pull to within seven. Both teams fought to build momentum from that point onward. The visitors were within nine with 4:37 to go when NEC finally put it away with a 10-2 run, the last three of those points coming from freshman point guard Kamdyn Ayers (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.). The 'Grims snapped their eight-game losing streak.  
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC freshman guard Khalon Taylor (Tuscon, Ariz.) returned to the lineup and led the Pilgrims with 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and two blocks.
  • Vermont Tech freshman forward Terrel Steele (Atlanta, Ga.) led the Knights with a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds.
  • NEC freshman guard Kyle Dzarnowski (Boca Raton, Fla.) came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points with five boards.
  • Vermont Tech sophomore guard BJ Jenkins (Newport, R.I.) led the Knights with 15 points.
  • Ayers also posted a career-high with 11 points, five rebounds and four steals in his best performance as a 'Grim.
  • NEC dominated with their bench, outscoring Vermont Tech 49-16 with their reserves.
  • The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, January 25th, and was rescheduled due to weather conditions. It is the first meeting between the two schools according to NEC record books.
