Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The New England College Men's Basketball team battled in a tight game, with the Mules of Colby College. The Pilgrims, unfortunately, lost 94-84 in overtime, in the opening round of the Ted Coghlin Memorial Tournament, Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mules started off hot with two threes to push an early 8-2 lead, but a string of layups from NEC brought them back and pushed to an eventually 8-10 lead, by an emphatic dunk from Treyjon Lewis. Halfway through the first half, New England College and Colby College traded baskets in a back-and-forth period of transition basketball but a three from Jamal Allen tied the game 15-15. A last-second three for the Mules from Noah Tyson cut into the Pilgrims lead 28-36 heading into halftime.
A putback layup by Calvin Cheek off his own miss extended the NEC's lead to 10 (30-40) early in the 2nd half. New England College and the Mules battled back and forth, but seven straight points from Allen helped the Pilgrims take the lead 72-74 with under three minutes remaining. A back-and-forth battle led to a 78-78 tie at the end of regulation.
In overtime, the back-and-forth battle continued but the Mules took control on the free throw line taking the 94-84 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Jamal Allen led the Pilgrims with 29 points and nine rebounds, followed by Calvin Cheek with 17 points and seven steals.
- The Pilgrims shot 80% from the free-throw line and compiled 23 assists as a team.
- Colby leads the all-time series 2-0.
