Box Score CHICOPEE, Mass. Behind 41 combined points from Izaiah Winston-Brooks and Calvin Cheek, the New England College men's basketball team picks up a 79-63 win over Elms College in New England Collegiate Conference action, Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Pilgrims move to 15-6 and 6-2 in NECC action, while the Blazers fall to 6-15 and 2-6 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pilgrims were able to jump out to an early 7-2 advantage following a layup by Stephen Fama, just over two minutes in. Elms College took the lead soon after, as the Blazers outscored NEC 13-4 over the next four minutes. The hosts would push their advantage to nine with 3:26 left in the first half, but a late push by the Pilgrims would send the game to halftime with NEC trailing by one (32-31).
The two teams would jockey for the lead in the opening moments of the first half, as neither team could gain an advantage. With the score tied at 37-37, Winston-Brooks score five of the next ten points, giving the Pilgrims the 47-37 lead. Following a Calvin Cheek layup at the 11:28 mark, the NEC lead ballooned to 17 (57-40). The Blazers would continue to try to chip away at the deficit, but New England College was able to hold on and pick up the 79-63 win.
