Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. - The New England College men's basketball team controlled play throughout in a 112-97 win over Becker College in New England Collegiate Conference action, Saturday afternoon.
Following the game, the Pilgrims improve to 21-3 and 13-1 in NECC action while the Hawks fall to 5-18, 4-10 in league play
NEC LEADERS
Ricky Leonard and Jamal Allen paced the Pilgrims offenses as the duo scored 24 and 21 points respectively, while Stephen Fama had a 10 point, 12 rebound double-double. Calvin Cheek scored nine points to go with six assists and three steals.
BECKER LEADERS
Antonio White Jr. led the Hawks with a team-high 20 points, while Kareem Davis had seven assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After trailing in the early moments of the game, New England College took the lead when
Ricky Leonard scored two minutes of the game and never looked back. The Pilgrims went to score 15 of the next 17 points, giving them the 22-8 lead, six minutes into the contest. NEC continued to pull away, as their lead grew to 21 (41-20) following an
Errol Crawford layup with eight minutes left in the first half.
Kareem Davis drained a three-pointer with six minutes left in the half, cutting the Becker deficit down to 15 (43-28), but the New England College squad was too much for the hosting Hawks, as they ended the half up 24-points (62-38).
In the second half, the NEC lead would grow as large as 30 points (86-56) following a layup from Fama, but the Hawks would slowly chip away at the deficit. They would get within 20 points (107-88) following an Antonio White free throw with 2:41 remaining in regulation, but the Pilgrims' built too large of a lead for the Hawks to overcome.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-This was the second-ever meeting between the two squads, as NEC has won both meetings.
-The Pilgrims extend their winning streak to 10-games, setting a new program record.
-NEC also ties the record for most wins in a season.
-112 is the most points scored since they put up 114 against Lyndon State College on Feb 17, 2018
