Box Score QUINCY, Mass. - The New England College men's basketball team picked up an 83-65 victory over Eastern Nazarene College, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action Tuesday afternoon.
Following the game, the Pilgrims improves to 10-2 and 4-0 in league play, while the Lions drop to 5-8 and 2-2 in NECC action.
NEC LEADERS
For the third consecutive game, Jamal Allen led the Pilgrims in scoring. The freshman dropped a game-high 28 points in the win. Calvin Cheek had a near triple-double, as hescored 11 points, and game-highs in assists (9), rebounds (8), and steals (5).
ENC LEADERS
Levi Grady-White and Josh Rice both recorded double-digits in the scoring column for the Lions, Grady-White poured in 14 points and led the team with seven rebounds, while Rice added 13 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first half, neither team could pull away, as the largest lead either team saw was six points when the score was 9-3 NEC. Both squads would remain within five points of one another up until halftime when New England College led 40-35.
The closely contested game continued into the second half until the 13:31 marker when Allen drained a 3-pointer to put the Pilgrims up 11 (55-44). That three jump-started a 17-0 New England College run to balloon the road lead to up to 20 points. NEC's lead would grow to as large as 23 points (81-58), but Eastern Nazarene would cut it down to the final margin of 18 by the final whistle.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-This was the 35
th meeting between the two schools, Eastern Nazarene still leads the all-time series 23-12.
-With 15 steals in tonight's game, the Pilgrims have double-digits steals in 10 of their 12 games this year.
-One big reason they pulled away in the second half, was that NEC had 25 of their 36 points off turnovers in the second half.
