Men's Soccer Falls to Wheaton, 4-1

Box Score NORTON, Mass.-The New England College men's soccer team suffered a 4-1 loss to the Lyons of Wheaton College on Wednesday afternoon.

The loss drops the Pilgrims to 1-2-1 overall, while the Lyons improve to 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The two teams took the field after an hour rain delay and the start was slow, as neither team would score until the 42nd minute, when Wheaton's Jake Keene took a shot off of a scrum in front of the net for a 1-0 halftime.

The Pilgrims were quick to equalize, as Cooper Valinski (Portsmouth, N.H.) scored off of a free-kick just over eight minutes into the second half.

Jules Stewart netted the would-be game-winner nine minutes later. Stewart would score again in the 81st minute and Reed Foster made it a three-goal advantage in the 84th minute off of a rebound save on a penalty kick.

GOALKEEPERS
NEC's Robbie Ferguson (Hopkinton, N.H.) recorded eight saves in defeat, while Wheaton's Peter Pond stopped four the five shots he faced in the complete game effort.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Pilgrims will play their first New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) game on Saturday in a 2:30 p.m. start against Dean College.
